There's not enough writers in demos these days. Not that there are too many scrollers anymore either. Anyway, for the 2009 new year demo, I wanted to do a writer.
The effect is based on FFT and some math. I ran the whole music through FFT and recorded the peaks, and then made the "pixel shower" hit those spikes - simply extrapolating back from the spikes to know when to shoot the pixels in advance.
The result sort of looks like the pixels were causing events in the music, but... like so many other times, this one was more effort than the result is worth, I feel.
